A Mean Bean Bloody Mary

Confession: I've never had a Bloody Mary until I made one myself a few weeks ago. I've always been intrigued by the idea since a) I like pickles b) I like tomato juice (it basically tastes like chilled tomato soup to me) c) I like hot sauce and d) I like alcohol. I don't know if I can get along with someone who doesn't like all the above, but I digress.

The reason why I've never had one is because I only think about tomato juice when my parents order it on the plane and by then I'm already thousands of feet in the air without cheap access to alcohol and hot sauce. So anyway, the other day I woke up early to get a head-start on reading my fat Java book and a lightbulb went off in my head. It was a lazy weekend morning, I didn't have any obligations that required driving and I had just received my spicy pickled green beans from Mouth earlier in the week. It was the perfect opportunity to try my very first Bloody Mary.

I quickly gathered all the necessary ingredients and assembled my drink, pairing it with some scrambled eggs and vegetarian sausage for breakfast.

The Bloody Mary was spicy, peppery, and so, so good. The Tabasco jalapeno hot sauce elevated the flavors of the tomato juice and the pepper and spicy green beans added the perfect kick. After just two sips, I was well on my way to a happy (or at least numbed) study session!

So now I can come to the educated conclusion that I'm a fan of Bloody Marys. Maybe next time, I'll add some pickled banana peppers to the mix. Yum!
